Strange Birds by Birdy: A curious tale of the in-between by Lauren Destafano: While I was reading the book, this song came up on my playlist and it fit so perfectly so now I always put these two together.
“Little ghost, you’re listening,
Unlike most you don’t miss a thing,
You see the truth…”
Renegades by X Ambassadors: Scarlet By A.C. Gaughen: Whenever I hear this song I think of a group of friends running around a town causing mayhem and that is exactly what the group of “merry men” do in this robin hood retelling.
“It’s our time to make a move
It’s our time to make amends
It’s our time to break the rules
Brother by Needtobreathe: the percy jackson series by Rick Riordan: When I think of the Percy Jackson series I think of a group of friends/siblings that will stick with each other no matter what and that is what this song portrays.
“Brother let me be your shelter
I’ll never leave you all alone
I can be the one you call
When you’re low…”
Monster by Imagine Dragons: The infinite sea by Rick Yancy: This book is about aliens and what it means to be human and the song is about staying true to who you are no matter what it takes. I feel like they go together pretty well especially when talking about one character in particular.
“I’m taking a stand to escape what’s inside me
A monster, a monster…I never said that I want this
This burden came to me…”
Goner/Guns for hands by Twenty-one Pilots: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes: This book follows a suicidal paraplegic man who wants to be remembered for who he was when he could walk. I couldn’t decide which song fit better so I decided to put both. I feel like Goner is how Will sees himself while Guns for Hands is how Louisa sees Will.
“Though I’m weak
and Beaten down… don’t let me be gone…”
“That you all have guns
And you never put the safety on…I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Guns for hands yeah…”
Invincible by All Good Things: Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness: This song encompasses how desperate the fight that Todd and Viola are facing is and how they wish things could be.
“If we were invincible
If we could never die
Then all the world could rise against us
And we’d dare to fight…”
The draw by Bastille: since you’ve been gone by Morgan Matson: This song is about coming out of your shell and making the decision to try something new and that is exactly what Since You’ve Been Gone is about.
“In my left hand there is the familiar
In my right hand there’s the great unknown…”
Sing by My Chemical Romance: Winter by Marissa Meyer: In my opinion this song is about standing up for what you believe and fixing the things you don’t like about your generation for the future generation. In Winter, a rebellion started because they didn’t like what was happening and they were brave enough to stand against it.
“You’ve got to, make a choice if the music drowns you out
And raise your voice every single time they try and shut your mouth…Sing it for the deaf
Sing it for the blind
Sing about everyone that you left behind
Sing it for the world, sing it for the world… We’ve got to see what tomorrow brings…”
centuries by Fall Out Boy: tuck everlasting by Natalie Babbit: Both of these are about how you want to be remembered and knowing that even one mistake you make could be remembered for years and years to come.
“Some legends are told
Some turn to dust or to gold… And just one mistake
Is all it will take
We’ll go down in history…”
Buzzcut Season by Lorde/ Dream by Imagine Dragons: Variant by Robison Wells: These are about living in a bubble trying to forget about everything that is going on in the world but eventually having to come to terms and except what is going on.
“Explosions on TV, and all the girls with heads inside a dream
So now we live beside the pool, where everything is good… The men up on the news, they try to tell us all that we will lose
But it’s so easy in this blue, where everything is good…”
“I know all your reasons to keep me from seeing
Everything is actually a mess
But now I am leaving
All of us were only dreaming
Everything is actually a mess…”
